RLEG is a joint initiative of a group of leading European regions with legislative powers.
WHO ARE WE?
RLEG is an initiative of regions with legislative powers that share a common basis of values and principles and that have met regularly, informally and openly, since 2018.
There is no European Union without regions
RLEG are strongly committed to the values and principles of the EU, ready to contribute to effective multilevel governance in the European Union and to further improve the application of the decentralized dimension of the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality. RLEG gathers 17 regions with legislative powers: Aaland Islands, Azores, Balearic Islands, Basque Country, Carinthia, Catalonia, Flanders, Lower Austria, Madeira, Piedmont, Salzburg, Sardegna, Tyrol, Upper Austria, Valencia, Voralberg, and Corsica as observer.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RLEG MEMBER REGIONS
EFFECTIVE MULTILEVEL GOVERNANCE
RLEG represents regions with legislative powers whose governments, many representing peoples or nations within their Member States, are highly committed to the values and principles of the European Union and to the integration process.
PARTNERSHIPS
& SYNERGIES
We share a commitment to remain open to partnerships and create synergies with other existing networks, bodies and institutions, such as collaborating with the CoR, think-tanks, CALRE, among others, for specific purposes.
CONFERENCE
ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE
The current approach of RLEG will be to contribute to the Conference on the Future of Europe (COFOE) in the post COVID context, in particular, in the pillar dealing with institutional debates, to deepen and implement the principle of multilevel governance, and to encourage other debates related to the principle of subsidiarity.
DIVERSITY
We believe that diversity (linguistic, geographical, cultural, etc.) is a key building block for a stronger, more inclusive and more democratic European Union, where there truly is a place for each and every citizen.
LATEST NEWS

RLEG AND THE CONFERENCE FOR THE FUTURE OF EUROPE (COFOE)
The Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) is an excellent opportunity to relaunch the discussions to build a more democratic EU.
